The Greek edition of the work by P. Brunel, Cl. Pichois, and A.-M. Rousseau aims to fill a gap observed in comparative literature university studies in the Greek-speaking world; we refer to the lack of introductory works on the subject and methodology in the field of comparative literary studies, which would meet undergraduate requirements while also providing a solid foundation for future researchers.
This is an infrastructure work that will serve as an introduction to the branch of literary science that we call comparative philology or literature studies. The Hellenic Society for General and Comparative Literature, in the first article of its founding charter, attributed to the term literature studies the true scope of our science or, rather, the actual range of the problems it is called to address; it refers to the "general and/or comparative study of the history of literature, the theory of literature, and the comparative interpretation and criticism of literary texts."
