Most students in the third grade have mastered the decoding mechanism while reading, but many struggle to understand what they read. This particular manual is designed to develop reading comprehension in third-grade students through suitable strategies and clear teaching techniques.
Thus, it provides educators with an effective teaching technique tool, both for enhancing their students' reading ability and for developing vocabulary and adequate written expression. Additionally, through the variety of texts it utilizes, it connects students with the magic of the world of books, enabling them to become capable and creative readers.
It includes five thematic units: Professions of the past, Attention... these animals will disappear, Learning values with Aesop, Everything starts... from mythology, and Nature... under protection, which correspond to the students' interests and strengthen their prior knowledge.
Each thematic unit contains four subunits, which have been selected to align with the interdisciplinary concepts (system, interaction, change, space, time, individual-group, similarity-difference, culture) that govern the Interdisciplinary Unified Framework of Study Programs. We chose to include a variety of text types so that students can come into contact with and internalize their structure, either explicitly or implicitly.
At the same time, the activities are text-centered and can be differentiated to meet the abilities of all students. The allure of reading is linked to enjoyment as well as to the students' ability to strengthen their cognitive background. Educators must be the guides and supporters of their students in the intricate journey of the everlasting quest for knowledge.
