Accepting the terms imposed by its European partners and the IMF, Greece largely ceded its fiscal and not only its sovereignty to its lenders. In order to avoid bankruptcy and secure its place in the Eurozone, a small country like Greece was forced to accept the terms of the first and second memorandum imposed by its partners, culminating in the "neo-colonial" special account, into which the country's tax resources would be pledged to prioritize repayments to its creditors.

Thus, Greece was transformed into a modern "colony" of its creditors...
