The struggles of the raisin growers and the entire community of raisin-producing regions in the Peloponnese are a landmark in the history of the Greek agricultural movement.
Through the history of the rise and subsequent prosperity and then the sharp decline of the economic value of raisins, as well as the journey to the brink of poverty for entire populations, various aspects of the problem are traced, in relation to the socio-cultural and economic context, and the character of the struggles during the time of the great raisin crisis at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century is explored.
The networks of mindsets and behaviors that nurture the raisin movement are examined, as well as the actions of various social strata throughout its course.
Finally, the mythical dimension that, from time to time, has surrounded the struggles of the raisin growers at the turn of the century is debunked.
