Description

Description

At the core of the book is the sociolinguistic analysis, specifically the critical analysis, of texts produced by migrant students in Greece. The specific focus of the analysis concerns the identities that migrant students construct in the texts under study.

The analysis highlights the central role that the national homogenizing discourse plays in the production of student texts and in the construction of the identities of students. The book also addresses the use of identity texts of migrant students in educational practice, which, by providing opportunities for reflective and empathic activities, can raise awareness among all students in a classroom to critically engage with the national discourse and the inequalities arising from it.

In this context, we argue that it can open the path for the exploration and investigation of an alternative meta-national discourse, as a counter to the national one, which will not prohibit the unpredictable prospects of meeting and mixing the languages and cultures of all members of a classroom, but also, more generally, of individuals coexisting in a social space. A discourse grounded in the mobility of migrants and refugees, and activated precisely by this mobility, as well as by the fluidity of linguistic and cultural reality.
