At a glance
What does the feature ripstop mean?
Ripstop means "tear resistance"
Ripstop gives the fabric increased resistance to tears and abrasions. Thicker fibers are interwoven into the fabric at approximately 5-8 mm intervals in a horizontal and vertical arrangement. This improves the fabric's durability and makes it less likely for any tears or holes to spread and become larger.
What does the feature 150D mean?
D stands for Denier and is a unit of measurement for the thickness of a thread or fiber. A small denier means a thin fiber, usually softer, while a larger denier means a thicker, more durable fiber.
To calculate the Denier of a polyester fiber, a piece of length 9,000 m is weighed, and the resulting grams are the Denier of the fiber. Therefore, if a 9,000 m length of polyester fiber weighs 210 gr, then its Denier is 210.
Double Canvas
The tent contains 2 separate panels, which are placed one on top of the other on the roof or upper part of it.
Usually, the first panel has waterproofing, while the second one is a panel that allows air to pass through and provides better ventilation in the tent.
What does the waterproof rating indicate in camping tents?
The waterproofing of a tent shows us how much water its exterior fabric can repel. It is measured in millimeters (mm) and refers to how many millimeters of vertical water column (and pressure) a square centimeter of fabric can withstand without being penetrated by water.
The higher the degree of waterproofing, the less breathable the fabric is and therefore the warmer the tent. Widely used values for waterproofing range from 500mm to 10000mm. In theory, any fabric with waterproofing >1000mm is considered waterproof. For example, a summer tent can have waterproofing from 500 to 1500mm.
