The globalization of socioeconomic issues and the need for universal solutions, the active participation of our country in the process of European integration, the intense mobility of students within the framework of the European educational programs Erasmus-Socrates and Tempus, all these factors, which have strongly internationalized legal studies and professions in recent years, make it imperative to re-evaluate the theoretical issues of comparative law as well as to renew the methods and teaching tools used.

This book aims to meet the above demands. Although it is intended primarily to cover educational needs, its study is useful for the legal practitioner who wishes to understand the general characteristics of foreign legal systems, as well as the solutions provided to the methodological problems posed by the study of foreign law.

In its individual chapters, it sequentially examines: the concept and content of comparative law, the comparative method and its fundamental principles, the classification of national legal systems into major systems and families, the fundamental characteristics of the major legal families, the purposes of comparative law and the way it is used both in the establishment of legal norms at international and national levels, and in the application of law by national and international adjudicatory bodies.
