What is a Smart Hub?

A smart hub acts as the central control system for your smart home devices. It connects to the internet and communicates with compatible devices using wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee.

Through a smartphone app, browser-based dashboard, or voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, you can control devices such as smart lights, thermostats, security cameras, and more.

A smart hub can also automate everyday tasks based on your preferences, such as turning on lights when someone enters a room or adjusting the thermostat throughout the day.

One of the main advantages of a smart hub is that it lets you manage multiple devices from a single interface, making your smart home easier and more convenient to control.

How does it help me make my home smarter?

  • Remote Control: With the smart hub, you can control your smart home remotely using your mobile phone or computer. This allows you to manage your home even when you're not there.

This can include setting up automatic rules for turning devices on and off, adjusting the home's temperature, setting the lighting, and much more. Automation helps you save time, reduce energy costs, and make your life easier. A smart hub can facilitate the creation of automations in your smart home, as it acts as a central controller for your various devices. It can connect your devices and coordinate their functions using built-in sensors and other technologies. It can also work with other smart home systems, such as a smart lock or smart camera.

Fantastic product to turn traditional devices into smart ones and control them from your mobile phone.

Basic information so you don't have to search: Buy whatever Broadlink version you find cheaper. The RM2/3/4 are hardware versions with insignificant differences. They do exactly the same job, they have the same reliability. They all control devices that operate with infrared remote controls. Buy the PRO/+ versions only if you are interested in controlling RF devices (e.g. garage doors and 433 MHz alarms). In this case only, I recommend going straight to the RM4 PRO (the square one) which supports an additional RF frequency.

It supports ready-made remote controls for the most common devices, but you can also program your own buttons, like the Cosmote TV in the picture that I made. Download the Broadlink Universal Control app and not the older ones like IHC, IHC Europe, e-Control. Search for it thoroughly, it has very good capabilities for automation on its own. It shows different remote controls depending on the device (air conditioner, TV, IPTV, lamp, etc.). Of course, things get even more interesting when you connect the Broadlink to Google Assistant or Alexa, where everything is controlled by voice commands. Also, with IFTTT for more complex automations.

For air conditioning, do not prefer it. You don't understand what you have activated, it doesn't keep a history. The temperature/humidity sensor doesn't work well.

Very very good and stable on IR, I haven't tried RF yet.. the temperature/humidity sensor HTS2 Cable USB Port Temperature Humidity Sensor Detector I believe shows 10% more humidity (compared to 3 other hygrometers I have). The temperature is correct.

In the living room I have a fan whose remote control works via RF; I learned that the hard way. The device controls the TV with IR, the fan with RF, and works through Home Assistant, where it learns the commands and you don't need its app to get your job done. Instead of looking for a learning remote, you buy one of these, keep it fixed in a spot in the house, and then either use your phone or, even better, set up voice commands and automations in Home Assistant, and you never have to look for the remote again.

  • I bought it for a special mission: to open and close the garage doors, one internal and one external, which operate on a radio frequency of 433.92 GHz. It works perfectly! Excellent! Fast connection! The only drawback is that the app does not show whether the door is opening or closing with some indication, e.g. turning green. Personally, it doesn't bother me that much since its use serves me immensely!

It does an amazing job for not-so-smart devices that require a remote control. Now I control all the devices in my home with this gadget. If you spend some time with Home Assistant, it is a tool you need if you have devices that don't have Wi-Fi control (that aren't so smart). Conclusion (one remote control for all devices, and with tools like Home Assistant you can turn all your devices into smart ones, with automations, etc.)

I got it to copy some keys. It copied everything, as long as it was with a fixed code.
If you need to connect it to another WiFi you can't (unless you reset it).
I wanted it to "listen" to the RF from wireless doorbell and alarm accessories to create scenarios but there is no such function.
I got it together with the cable with the temperature and humidity sensor, it's worth it.
It doesn't have an adapter, it needs 5v/1A.

The most unreliable thing I have bought in wifi-IR control.. on the contrary, with 17€ you can buy something much more reliable.. I wouldn't recommend it, since there are products on the market at half the price, absolutely reliable

It captures all RF frequencies but does not work with rolling codes, it captures the frequencies simply because the frequency changes each time, it doesn't work. It has a very good range. For infrared, it should be at least in the same room.

I had a problem not being able to find its wifi at first, but I did 1-2 resets and found it afterwards, then you follow the steps.

It takes a little time to get used to the app, it has a widget that you can simply put an icon on your home screen and thus you can quickly perform the action you want without having to enter the app and press it from there.

Awesome product, it has ready-made profiles from a large number of remote controls, from broadlink or from other users. Also, in case it is not available in the list, the user can practically copy all the remote controls by pressing the buttons one by one (it supports both RF and IR).
Finally, it has a very small size, like a square sticky note.

    Only 2 downsides:
    A) the wifi needs to be 2.4ghz and not dual 5ghz/2.4ghz, luckily my wifi router supports 4 ssid so I created one just for this.
    B) it does not come with a 5v/1a USB power supply in the package, a small inconvenience but for 30 euros I believe it should have included one even if it costed 1-2 euros more.

Lastly, it would be good to also purchase the HTS2 cable as it gives it capabilities for scenes based on temperature or humidity.

    Excellent product, worth its money.

It works perfectly with Siri Shortcuts!

    Negative:

The app does not show the current status of the devices (whether they are on or off, for example).

This would be useful when you are away from home remotely.

On the other hand, it is logical because it ONLY sends IR information - it does NOT receive.

    For this reason, 4 stars.

Unless someone has found something else and please inform.

Two very important issues that show a great deal of carelessness in the design of the software:
    1. It does not accept long passwords or special characters in the passwords of the wifi it connects to, forcing you to reduce the security of your network. Tragic.
    2. If you need to change the ssid name or the password of your wifi, you have to RESET the device - losing all the settings, scenes, and routines you have made. TRAGIC because it essentially forces you to have a weak password that you cannot change.
And all of this is sent to the broadlink server along with your location, which is mandatory.
A huge security hole that needs to be fixed.

I have it in the living room with Alexa and I manage the TV, Denon amplifier, air conditioning, and LED strip on the ceiling of the living room. Generally, anything that has a remote control can be managed through Alexa, of course, in basic functions. Unfortunately, I couldn't connect the awning in the yard even though it has a remote control. It makes all the dumb devices with a remote control smart.

Very good device and it performs flawlessly what it promises. What I will mention and is very important is that it cannot copy controllers from SOMFY motors. SOMFY, as well as some other manufacturers of garage doors, etc., have encrypted their frequencies and essentially every time you press the button on the controller, it transmits on a different frequency, so it is impossible to copy.

I use it to manage all my remote controls through Amazon Alexa and it works perfectly without any disconnections.

The device can also learn remote controls that we have without knowing the manufacturer. I had absolutely no problem with any remote control I connected to it.

    edit:
After 3 years, there hasn't been a single disconnection of the device with daily use

I am very satisfied with the product and its infrared capabilities, as well as its RF 433 capabilities (it has good range with two walls intervening, approximately 25 to 30 meters). Also, good wifi signal.

It works with everything, does everything. It synchronizes with all the remote controls for blinds, curtains, etc. With a little patience for setting it up through Alexa, IFTTT, you can simply talk throughout the whole house.
