Constantine Sathas was one of the most important historians of modern Hellenism, laying the foundations for the development of Byzantine and Medieval studies in our country. His research brought to light several obscure and at the same time "deviant" aspects of Greek history, such as the existence of a brotherhood of initiated "pagans" in Mystras in the 15th century, guided by the philosopher George Gemistos – Plethon, the role played by learned ancient enthusiasts stratioti (or Soldiers) in the West in the years following the Fall of Constantinople, as well as the actions of a mysterious "Society" that kept the flame of the ancient mysteries and Hellenism alive up to the eve of the Revolution.

The book you hold in your hands is a collection of selected excerpts from the works of Sathas, "Medieval Library" and "Biographies of the Greeks Who Shone in Letters," enriched with a particularly enlightening preface by the journalist Stefanos Mytilineos, which provides new dimensions to the issue we are examining.

The main aim of this volume is by no means to attempt to create yet another conspiracy theory but rather the minimal duty to restore the historical contributions of Greek scholars to the Renaissance and modern Western civilization, up to the Enlightenment, and to bestow upon them the honors they deserve from the societies of the so-called "esotericism."
