With Law 1586/1942, Greece compensated German nationals for all damages caused or to be caused due to military operations... on Greek state territory. We were paying compensations immediately and in cash because we were being looted, because we were deprived of the next day. 50 years later, the Federal Republic of Germany still refuses to return even this money to us.

In the same year, the general director of the Ministry of Finance wrote in his report, "We have no currency. Production is constantly declining. Prices have risen to unimaginable levels. We are starving. We are getting sick. The mortality rate is increasing threateningly. We are gradually degenerating, materially and morally." This Greece of famine, with a threateningly increasing mortality rate and degeneration, was supporting its invaders.

In 1962, Greece, under the pressure of the Western Allies, primarily West Germany, recognized in full the nominal value of its pre-war loans. On the other hand, Germany, from the deposits in its territory until 1939, returned 13.5% and in rare cases 20%. The rest it kept for its reconstruction!!!

However, in the prosecution of war criminals, we proved to be... relentless. From the end of the war until 1959, 911 lawsuits were filed for the prosecution of war criminals. Of these, only ONE was tried, and he was acquitted. As indicated by the preliminary investigation report of the Bochum prosecutor's office regarding an officer who participated in the Kalavryta operation, "the reprisals were necessary and permissible under international law, so that the opponents, namely the partisans, would be forced to comply with international law... therefore, any form of participation in these is not illegal."

In other words, the Holocaust of Kalavryta, the massacres of Viannos, Distomo, and so many others were lawful and necessary under international law! It remains for us to apologize to post-occupation Germany for the occupation looting, hostage-taking, massacres... and not to ask for reparations, compensations, and the return of the K.D.
