Summary

The main objective of this book is to highlight the fact that Plato's metaphysics and epistemology serve as the foundation upon which his view of language is based. Therefore, this is an interpretative approach to Plato's linguistics, not in a fragmented way but holistically.

Beyond the unveiling of the foundational relationship between Plato's metaphysics, epistemology, and linguistics, this book additionally performs another connection: that between Plato's linguistic thought and the thought of some of the most significant contemporary philosophers who particularly focused on the issue of language.

In this way, what is sought is also to reveal how Plato's view of language laid, throughout history, the foundations for the formation, on one hand, of the Philosophy of Language and, on the other hand, of modern Linguistics.

At the same time, this book examines the various ways in which Plato's view of language has, in the first place, itself been an object of reception, both in antiquity and in the modern and contemporary era.
