Man's inner need to communicate with many gods inevitably leads to a crisis of monotheism. If man is by nature a polytheist, what possibilities does monotheism have for genuine self-realization;
The issue here is, of course, not only psychological. The qualitative dimensions of monotheism are much broader than the psychological category. But just as free as the spirit is to go wherever it wants, equally free is the unconscious human psychodynamics to operate and express itself as it desires.
This means that monotheism does not always find a consistent advocate in the human psyche in its effort to realize itself experientially. It is true that the 'monotheistic spirit' is willing. The 'spiritually' evolved person has a depreciative view of polytheism. But its 'flesh' of impulse is weak!
The nature of man speaks polytheistically! And this fact shows that the problem of authentic embodiment of monotheism is inherent in human nature, even in the case where the identity of this nature is Christian...
