This group of dramatic works numerically corresponds to the preserved dramaturgy of the Cretan theater and significantly enriches the modern Greek dramaturgy of the 17th and 18th centuries.

The tragedy itself about Saint Demetrius was written to be performed by students and alumni of the Jesuit college of Naxos in a performance attended by members of the island's high society, with the ultimate aim of bringing together the faithful of the two faiths.
