The radical changes brought about by digital technology and the internet are transforming translation activities in various ways in our age. From the online available automatic translation services and mobile translation applications to voluntary translation through wikis and social networks, the translation revolution is everywhere and significantly affects languages, cultures, and societies. For this reason, our digital age should probably be referred to as the age of translation.

The aim of the book is to critically approach the interplay between translation and technology, from the beginnings of the history of material culture to the present day, and to interpret its social, cultural, and political implications. The book multifacetedly illuminates the translation landscape of the 21st century and constructively synthesizes perspectives from various theoretical fields.

It is an essential reading for all students and scholars of translation, communication, modern languages, and cultural studies.

Michael Cronin is one of the most distinguished translation scholars of our time. He served for many years as a professor of Translation Studies at Dublin City University and currently holds the Chair of French Language at Trinity College Dublin. He has published over 200 scientific articles and books on translation, language, and culture. He has received many international awards. He is a member of the Royal Irish Academy and the Academy of Europe. His works have been translated into more than 15 languages. His book "Translation and Globalization" (Diavlos Publications, 2007) is also available in Greek.
