Description

The Panteion School, now Panteion University, is a scientific space where the selection of women is not an issue, as one-third of its members are women. The participation of women in the faculty is considered quite advanced compared to other areas of public life in our country, such as the Parliament.

From a generational perspective, the younger members, specifically those aged 30 and 40, predominate. Apart from these demographic characteristics, the academic profile of the university’s faculty members refers to the number of degrees and postgraduate titles they hold, their language proficiency, the number of publications, etc. Specifically, a typical faculty member is a graduate of the Law School and, secondly, Political Science.

They hold two degrees and a doctorate, often with a second master's degree as well. They are proficient in at least one foreign language and have a strong presence at international conferences or publications in foreign-language journals. With the scientific prestige they possess, faculty members also display impressive mobility in the broader society, with substantial involvement in both the private and public sectors, such as in politics, official missions, or state positions.

These are some of the main conclusions drawn from the relevant research conducted by Mr. K. Koutsoukis, Associate Professor and Director of the Hellenic Center for Political Research at Panteion University. The research, while analyzing the demographic and biosocial characteristics of over three hundred faculty members of Panteion School from its establishment until 1988, also provides a historical overview and examines the establishment and institutional organization to determine the intense state intervention that kept the School in the background.

The establishment of Panteion School, according to the research, constituted a milestone in the effort for educational and broader modernization (for this reason, it is likened to an educational coup) and for the development of social sciences in our country. As a sign of gratitude, the author dedicates the book to the late founders of Panteion School, G. Fragoudis and A. Panto. The role of Eleftherios Venizelos was also significant for its operation, as he was intended to be one of the first professors, but political circumstances seemed to have prevented this.
