The traumatic experience of 1989, the dissolution of the USSR, Maastricht, the EMU, the Stability Pact, and the Euro are milestone events marking the defeat of the political and social Left, which lost battles, symbols, and pieces of its history.
Without a leadership commensurate with its struggles, lacking reflexes, and unable to interpret circumstances and take initiatives, it remains literally behind the developments.
Moreover, the imposed Memorandum is a comprehensive and long-term plan of colonial administration, stripping the country of its fundamental autonomy and national sovereignty. If it ever wishes to regain them, it will be unable to do so, as the material, spiritual, and institutional content of this sovereignty will have been expropriated. It will be but an empty shell!
In view of the upcoming long-term Memorandum and the elections, many speak of the unity of the Left. They claim that today’s Left must either collaborate programmatically and electorally to counter the ongoing "regime" of the Memorandum or it no longer has a reason to exist.
If we insist on the united action of the Left and the democratic faction, knowing that this constitutes a contradiction "in itself," it is because for the first time our homeland is experiencing such destruction. This is a completely extraordinary historical circumstance.
