Opinions are mixed, but several users appreciate its good casting performance and value for money. It is described as suitable for surfcasting and weights of around 80–100 g, and some find it sturdy and effective for fishing. However, several users report breakages or problems with the rod sections and guides, even after only a few uses, and damage to the rings has also been reported.
After 5–6 fishing trips with meticulous cleaning, washing, air-drying, and silicone spray, the rings started turning green on their stainless steel parts. Choose the GX instead of the FX, because it has black rings. Otherwise, it’s a good rod.
I had a Chinese prima, I got the Shimano, I was throwing the Chinese one around, I took care of the Shimano fully, it broke a ceramic on the first shaft, I said to myself it was a coincidence, and now the second one breaks
The only fishing rod in my life that broke and I threw away on the second fishing trip. The last section got stuck upside down and couldn't be unstuck at all. Where I took it, they couldn't do anything... I've been fishing for decades and it's the first time I throw away a fishing rod on the second trip... ever... last time Shimano rods... only reels from them...
Unfortunately, it didn't even last a day and after 4 months of inactivity due to work, it broke in my hands just by pulling its parts!!!! After contacting Shimano's representative, they told me that it is not covered by warranty because, according to them, I pulled it too hard and broke it myself... and very rudely they told me that if I want to send it for repair, it will cost me 25€ plus shipping! My mistake was choosing Shimano after all, because when I made the purchase, I thought it had a 3-year warranty! And that the representative was friendly...!!! It is the Alivio 200gr, although it doesn't matter much. The point where it broke is not justified to have broken during transportation... I have been fishing for over 20 years with rods and I have rods that I have been using for over 10 years... I wouldn't be ashamed to admit that I broke it myself, nor would I think about the cost!!! Just never Shimano again!!!
