The knowledgeable psychotherapist Donald Robertson manages to create in an exceptional way the life and philosophy of Marcus Aurelius, creating a guide to Stoicism and how it approaches modern life. Stoicism has been followed by significant people throughout the centuries, with a well-known example being N. Mandela.

Robertson describes how Marcus Aurelius utilized philosophical doctrines and therapeutic practices to develop emotional resilience and survive intense adversities he faced, while guiding the reader to apply the same methods in their own life. Truly, this can be translated and applied to our everyday modern life!

The book is a combination of excerpts from various writings/books, primarily based on Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations," but there are also references to Epictetus, Seneca, etc. It manages to combine stories from Marcus Aurelius' life with knowledge from contemporary psychology, as well as the foundation of his philosophy that endures over time.

It is a book that is relatively easy to read, and I would recommend it if someone wants to enter the world and understand the basic principles of Stoic philosophy.
