One primary reason that compelled us, as social psychologists, to study the phenomena of terrorism and, more broadly, state and non-state political violence lies in their complex nature and origins as they are experienced, perceived, explained, interpreted, and dealt with by social subjects in a natural way - primarily at a representational level - but also in terms of how they are addressed, utilized, and capitalized upon by the state in its various forms, specifically at an institutional and communicational level.
