With great satisfaction, we present in our language the classic History of Greece by J. B. BURY, which has been indispensable since 1900.

For our edition, we took the most updated version of the work, as recently (1975) completed by RUSSELL MEIGGS, and we wanted it to be presented almost contemporaneously with the last, 37th English reprint of 1978.

Thus, the translation was undertaken by five specialist scholars, each working in their particular field of interest, according to the division of the work into five major periods, as follows:

1. BRONZE AGE, chap.1: Ms. Rouli Tataki

2. ARCHAIC PERIOD, chaps.2-6: Mr. K.N. Petropoulos

3. FIFTH CENTURY, chaps.7-11: Ms. Anna Papadimitriou-Grammenou

4. FOURTH CENTURY before Alexander, chaps.12-15: Mr. Konstantinos Bourazelis

5. ASCENT OF MACEDONIA and ALEXANDER, chaps.16-18: Mr. Aggelos Matthaiou.

Each translator is responsible for the rendering of the text as well as the footnotes of the same section. The footnotes are gathered in the last part of the book. The linguistic consistency of the entire work was curated by philologist Ms. Mania Philippidou.
