In the one-act plays you will observe here, the characters of Tennessee Williams share a common trait: the deadlock to which their shattered existence has led them.

At the critical point of nothingness they have reached, there is nothing left to redeem them. They have been led to the end. At the moment when the great Cry approaches. They have reached the extreme moment when man becomes a number - preferably zero.

But what does the number matter? It could be double-digit or five-digit, even or odd. It could be assigned to an inmate of an institution, it could be the number of a check that has expired, or a phone number for emergency services that never arrive. The issue is that there is no escape, no hope for relief.

And yet, there is not the slightest protest heard from anywhere. Only the broken spirit remains in these beings. They are a burden to others, a heavy load for themselves. They feel it, they know it, and they simply count the time.

They ponder what they have gained and what the consequences will be. They neither move forward nor retreat. They remain motionless at the point where their abyss opens before them, as if this is the only true form of a friend, a loved one.

They see clearly the end that is neither sudden nor written by fate, but the mirror of decay that has reached to the marrow, ravaging everything. It is the rot that initially exterminated dreams and hopes, as if they were unnecessary luxuries, while these are the elements that keep man alive.

Then, it destroyed the serene visage and the smile of man. It obliterated his existence that held a small place in the sun. A place that the human being rightfully occupied from the moment he first came into the world.
