ON PARALYSIS: A small excerpt on paralysis. Theophrastus from Eresos in Lesbos was born around 370 BC. He studied at the Platonic Academy and was friends with Aristotle. After the Stagirite's exile from Athens (323 BC), he succeeded him in the leadership of the Walk. He taught a multitude of students, including Menander, Demetrius of Phalerum, and Dinarchus. He died at an advanced age in 287 BC. His works, both thematically and in terms of titles, refer back to Aristotle, whom he generally followed. He dealt with all areas of natural science as well as philosophy, rhetoric, and political thought. From his philosophical work, we have only a few excerpts, but a large part of his writings on physiognomy and the 'Characters' are preserved.
