The wife of Hector, Andromache, is taken to Phthia as a prize by Achilles' son, Neoptolemus. They have a son, Molossus. Neoptolemus' wife, Hermione, along with her father Menelaus, tries to kill Andromache and her son. The elderly Peleus prevents the murder.
Orestes, a former suitor of Hermione, kills Neoptolemus. The appearance of Thetis concludes the drama: Andromache's son will become the ancestor of the Molossians, while Peleus will live as an immortal near Thetis and will reunite with his son, Achilles.
