Women’s Virtues: Plutarch's views on women, their value, their virtues, and the circumstances in which they can display ethics and character.
Collection of Parallel Stories from Greek and Roman: Snapshots from Greek and Roman history and tradition, mainly military achievements, which have taken on almost mythical proportions, as they contain the 'supernatural' element.
On the Fate of the Romans: Plutarch examines the question of whether the greatness of the Roman Empire is due to the worth of its leaders or was a product of chance.
The biographer and philosopher Plutarch (c. 50-120 AD) was born in Chaeronea, Boeotia. Through his travels, he broadened his intellectual horizons and came into contact with prominent personalities of the time, especially notable Romans. He spent most of his life in his homeland and held public priestly offices.
His surviving work is distinguished into the historical-biographical part and the so-called 'Ethical' writings. In the 'Parallel Lives,' prominent Greeks and Romans are compared, and the worlds each represents are indirectly compared. In the 'Ethical' works, issues of ethics, philosophy, science, politics, literary criticism, as well as topics from the fields of religion, nature, history, etc., are developed, sometimes in the form of dialogues and sometimes as treatises or dissertations.
Erudite and with a refined spirit, the author expressed the traditional Greek values with simplicity and an optimistic outlook. His work entertains and instructs, serving as a significant source of the literature of classical and Alexandrian times.
