The "Topics in Modern Greek History" reference the corresponding school book for the 3rd grade of the Unified Lyceum (Theoretical direction) which was first published in the academic year 1999-2000, as part of the educational reform. The fact that this particular book was taught for only one year in schools creates certain problems, as there is not enough experience to highlight the issues faced by teachers and students. A second difficulty is the change in the way the history subject is examined, as there is confusion regarding the type of questions, as well as their level of difficulty, depending on the category: closed type, open type, source utilization and how it is done, combinatorial questions, image utilization questions. A third problem is answering the question of whether students should continue to memorize or activate their critical thinking, without resorting to rote memorization or, ultimately, combining the above methods. This aid attempts to provide solutions to these issues, without claiming originality or infallibility. Its differentiation, compared to other aids released so far, lies in the fact that it places more emphasis on the text of the school book as well as on open-type questions, while also utilizing teaching experience in the classroom.
