"The Fourth Dimension" is the most important work by Giannis Ritsos and one of the pinnacle works of modern Greek poetry. Ritsos himself regarded "The Fourth Dimension" as "a summary of all his other books."
In this study, a younger poet, Vaggelis Kassos, through the reading of The Fourth Dimension, attempts an approach to the "poetic ideology" of Giannis Ritsos. According to this reading, the fourth dimension is poetry itself.
Speaking about poetry only with poetry, Ritsos authentically defends the position that "poetic exile" is not at all the natural relationship of the poet with the State and that, on the contrary, the poet should be among the audience that listens to him.
For the poet to reach his Ithaca in the social space, large and mainly difficult internal distances need to be traversed. Ritsos discusses this odyssey of poetic consciousness in "The Fourth Dimension." [Excerpt from the text on the back cover of the edition]
