When P. D. Ouspensky was asked if he intended to publish his lectures, he replied: 'What is the use? What matters more are not the lectures but the questions and answers.' This book consists of faithful excerpts from Ouspensky's talks and his answers to questions posed to him between 1921 and 1946. The first chapter consists of a general overview of the fundamental ideas, which in the subsequent chapters are developed by topic in the particular order followed by Ouspensky himself. To achieve this order, part of the material had to be taken out of its chronological sequence; but in no case was the wording or meaning altered. [Excerpt from the preface text]
