One star is far too high a rating for this particular game. Its graphics are worse than 2K17, not just 18 and 19! The bugs and glitches are not just part of the game but essentially the whole game. Headless bodies walk around the ring, the referee, as if a trapdoor had opened, sinks from the waist down into the ring, your player gets slammed into the ropes for about 5 minutes as if they were electrified. The game is so tragic that they were forced to hand out compensation in America and 2K is coming out left and right apologizing. Of course, it has no meaningful addition in terms of gameplay to somehow justify this year’s failure (at least, for example, that there was some attempt at something innovative). The excuses for this abomination from 2K were that the studio working on these WWE games took advantage of the fact that their contract expired and left, with the game halfway through production. The reality is that the studio Yuke's got tired and bored of 2K's profiteering effort, which forced them to add fewer and fewer new features year after year and restricted anything innovative they could put in. Mandatory minimal progress from year to year and, of course, DLC characters here too. So this year the game decided to become even more uninspired and copy-paste than ever, so it demanded to collaborate with the team responsible for NBA (because if they can make 200+ decent NBA players, they are ideal for doing the same in WWE). The only thing they changed is the controls so it doesn’t look like there isn’t any meaningful addition.
Unfortunately, here we encounter the same problem that comes with the logic of annual title releases. Time is extremely limited for studios to produce something truly excellent, and essentially in order to meet the company’s relentless deadlines they release the same game with less than 10% difference. We see it in football with FIFA, Pro, in basketball with 2K, NBA Live. The issue is that in this particular field there isn’t even any competition, so at least you have some choice.
In short, the game is worse than 19 in every aspect and I would by no means recommend that anyone buy it. The only thing it offers you is the updated roster, but is anyone really so desperate that they would pay 50+ euros for that alone?
