Description

For many, the views of French pediatrician Aldo Naouri are heretical: he urges mothers to stop 'charming' their children, fathers not to settle for the role of a mere observer, and both parents to emphasize their relationship with each other.

He criticizes the 'syrupy pseudolove' of today's parents, which does not educate but instead sustains the feeling of childhood omnipotence, undermining the future.

In response to the modern demand 'You can and deserve to have it all', Aldo Naouri asserts: 'You can't have it all, but you can fight to have as much as possible'.

Against the continuous 'yes' from parents that dismantle individual psyche and social fabric, he contrasts a 'no' that affirms life!

Understandable, enlightening, and an excellent translation of the original. Useful and with practical advice for every new parent in order to appreciate boundaries and avoid the 'charm offensive' towards their child. Ideal for parents with children aged 1-9

  • The responsibility of a parent is to set boundaries, an issue that is addressed in many aspects throughout the entire book. It is worth reading.

Out of place and time the book. Very old, outdated views. And let me clarify, I am not a mom who allows my children's bad behavior unchecked. I like and find necessary boundaries, but not as the author presents them. There are so many methods now, so many ways to communicate with the child. I found it a very cold book and without any emotion.

I am in the field of psychology and a new mom, I found the book excellent, even though I am not from the psychoanalytic school, which the author supports - but not uncritically. If other books by the same author are translated, I will definitely read them.

I found it extremely interesting and informative reading. As a new mom, I lack guidance on how to raise a child with respect and empathy, without becoming permissive and spoiling them. Naouri explains the handling of various situations with examples and without mincing his words. However, the frequent references to psychoanalysis could be omitted, as the book is supposed to be aimed at a wide audience.

Excellent and quite "disruptive" and "revolutionary" book! It is worth every parent to read it!
