Description

Thymios Tzallas's book is not only a clear roadmap that makes the labyrinth of Brexit accessible, but also an exciting political thriller that demonstrates both the poison of populism and the inability of the political world to align with reasonable social anxieties.

The author captures personalities and behaviors, public vacillations and backstage dramas, crucial moments, decisions, and transformations, radiographs the Remainers and Brexiteers, reveals unknown incidents, and sheds light on corners of the British drama, comparing it – very aptly – to the Greek one.

This book attempts to illuminate Brexit from the perspective of the British, using as a reference point what we also experienced in Greece. The result of the referendum highlighted a fundamentally important issue in modern democracies: the political world of Britain is called upon to carry out something it does not believe is in the country's interest. In Greece, the No became Yes, in Britain they are still struggling with it.

Reading this book helps us understand what and how things happened, realize that the implications of Brexit will affect us in the near future, and possibly change the face of Europe.

“Brexit is still unfolding, it writes its unpredictable story daily. Perhaps, much has changed since the book was printed. However, I hope that readers, when they finish reading it, will feel Britain a little closer to them, and that Brexit, a largely inexplicable choice for the rest of Europe, will make more sense” (Thymios Tzallas, April 2019).
