Description

Description

Theater constitutes a secondary semiotic system that denotes reality in a way that, while not being a mirror, serves as an indicator of social existence with a satisfactory level of objectivity.

In our study, with a focus on the conflict and confrontation of youth against all forms and versions of the system, we trace the course of Greek society during the 20th century, with the new hero of the examined plays as the agent of action, who dynamically and combatively faces life, rejecting compromise and passivity.

The socio-semiotic method forms the theoretical framework of our approach, which (due to its nature) refers either to minor works of famous authors or to texts of less well-known playwrights, through which the course of Greek youth during the corresponding period is vividly depicted, equally concerning the History of Greek Theater and Greek Society as a whole.

In this way, from the semiotic analysis of the dramatic text, we elevate to a theory on the reception of Theater and from Theater Studies to Sociology.
