Description

Description

The Maker's Mark 46 was the first new significant expression created at the Maker's Mark Distillery since the original bourbon was released in 1953. A bolder and more complex version of Maker's Mark Pronounced with notes of caramel and vanilla and a long finish but without the typical bitterness of older whiskey. It got its name from the number of different "wood recipes" they tried before getting it right. It matures in new French oak barrels to give more spice, sweetness, and vanilla.

Tasting Characteristics

  • Nose: Aroma with hints of French oak and caramel.
  • Taste: Very intense flavors, reminiscent of wood that blends beautifully with complex, rich notes of vanilla and caramel.
  • Finish: Smooth and delicate finish.

As a bourbon, it is very honest for its price, particularly well-rounded and full-bodied in the mouth, rich, perhaps with a slightly stronger alcohol presence on the tongue compared to others in its category, so the complexity of the flavor (which it has) may be slightly diminished. I didn't like its cap; it has a waxy coating that makes it difficult to open. However, I prefer Woodford Reserve Double Oaked for the same money.
