This study seeks to illuminate the linguistic phenomenon of ad hoc (contextual) neologism, a (significant) aspect of which consists of poetic neologisms.
After discussing the status of ad hoc neologisms as a marginal linguistic element between a word and a phrase, its approach is chosen through the scientific fields of morphology and text linguistics. Specifically, the issue of distinguishing between codified words and ad hoc (contextual) neologisms is analyzed, followed by their functional analysis in interaction with Elytis’ text.
The work is of interest both to linguists, as it deals with the limits of linguistic creation, and to scholars of literature, as it suggests an additional approach to literary text.
