"Death and the Daughter" is a poetic composition consisting of six sections. Around the myth of Persephone and Pluto, concentric circles begin that encompass the two fundamental themes of existence and poetry.
The Underworld, a hunter, impetuous, all-consuming, irreverent, craves and subjugates life, which is yielding, introspective, and passionate. The two opposing poles are drawn to each other and experience, like all lovers, both paradise and hell.
Decay dissolves the relationship, but the separation is not eternal. The unbroken chain of love across time, between the upper and lower worlds, brings forth spring; with its death, it will nourish the lover.
How do the different personalities of a passionate pair balance, knowing they will ultimately be crushed? Is the same principle at play for every entity in relation to its opposing demon on earth? Primal questions that challenge even the modern era.
