Description & Specifications

This is the story of Mary Lennox, a spoiled and unpleasant girl who was born in India to English parents but became an orphan at the age of nine and had to go live in her strange uncle's mansion in the marshes of northern England. Mary begins to take long walks in the desolate gardens of the mansion and learns about a garden that has been locked ever since her uncle's wife died. She makes friends with a robin, an old gardener, and a boy her age, Dickon, who knows all the secrets of nature and can communicate with animals and birds. She also befriends Colin, her uncle's sickly son, whom she discovers in a secret room of the mansion. The three children decide to find the secret garden and bring it back to life. The secret garden is a hymn to nature, a hymn to life!
