The well-known folklorist publishes, after several decades, the diary he kept from the first day of the declaration of the Greek-Italian war until the collapse of the front in April 1941.

As a conscript soldier, he describes the daily chaos of the troops in the rear as well as on the front lines, preserving acts of self-sacrifice but also of self-interest, and revealing the rich spirit of the conscripts and the irrational attitude of the professional soldiers.

The reader will discover in these diary notes a text that stands alongside major works of modern Greek literature, next to "The History of a Captive" or "Life in the Grave."
