On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the start of his writing career, the author gathers in one volume certain studies related to his birthplace, Crete. The reissue of these studies is done with the hope that they may serve as an impetus for newer researchers to engage with topics that not only have not been sufficiently studied but also tend to be considered outdated.

In the First Part of the book, purely linguistic issues are examined, including epigraphic, etymological, interpretative, and grammatical matters. The Second Part investigates the complex relationship between the Cretan dialect and the literary production that developed on the island. The bibliography examines the Cretan idiom from the period 1300-1700 and identifies the research needs that modern research should focus on.

In the Third Part, new information about Crete from foreign travelers who visited the island is provided, a topic that has not yet been extensively studied in monographs, despite the abundance of related literature. The Appendix includes the latest study of the thirty-year period: "The Elytis of Crete," who is simultaneously a poet of Mytilene, the Aegean, Greece, and Europe, with universal and human dimensions.
