Ourania Nizamidou, born in 1926, lived the "typical" life of Greek communists of her generation: participating in the National Resistance through the ranks of the EAM, facing persecutions during the Civil War and the post-civil war period from the nationalistic state, fighting for democratic normalization and social progress through the EDA, again facing persecutions under the junta of the colonels, internal leftist disputes, and joining the renewal Left, social and political action after the Metapolitefsi.
From January to May 2010, every Saturday and Sunday in the serene living room of her house, a small tape recorder recorded, through the story of her own life, the adventures of our land and the history of thousands of "anonymous" communists, the "unseen" of this heroic and tragic course of the Greek Left.
This book with her memories, covering over half a century of the recent political history of our country, is published after her death on March 3, 2018. It is rather certain that she, due to modesty, would not have sought publication while she was alive. The publication was decided in honor of her memory by her two children.
It is known that there are reservations about oral history, that is, the recording of History through the stories told by "ordinary" people. However, as historian Tasoula Verveniotis points out, "their stories may provide 'other' answers not just to who writes but also to who creates History." One of those ordinary people, the unseen creators of History, was undoubtedly Ourania Nizamidou.
