The most value for money option for those on the Intel platform who are primarily focused on gaming. 6 cores, activate the synchronization of all cores on the first boot and from there you are permanently at 3.9 GHz on all cores, stable and cool. It works fine with the factory cooler, but I recommend (and have) a typical 212 evo cooler for 20 euros. The difference is more than noticeable. Let's thank AMD once again because a 6-core beast for 150 euros is beyond our wildest dreams. Since I mentioned it, it goes without saying that the 9400f is recommended, especially if you are on the Intel platform or if you are an Intel fanboy, but for those starting from scratch, definitely take a look at the 3600, similar in price, slightly better in performance, and slightly worse in temperatures. Tremendous choices, both with us gamers as the only winners. Choose and take as many games as you want and don't do anything else serious on your PC. For the average user who plays games, has an open browser, and uses Discord, the 9400f-3600 combo is perfect.

The processor is not recommended as it is on a "dead" platform (LGA 1151). For those of you who believe that you will be able to find a processor worthy of future upgrades (e.g. i9 9900k), take a look at the prices of previous generations (e.g. i7 7700k, a 4-core processor, costs between 230 and 330 euros used) and of course the same, if not worse, will apply in the future for the i9 as there will be a high demand for upgrades.

The Ryzen 5 3600 now costs 20 euros more, which in my opinion is worth it as it provides a smoother gaming experience and significantly better multi-tasking, as well as a possible upgrade path to the Ryzen 9 3950x and potentially Ryzen 4000 (depending on the motherboard).
The Ryzen 5 2600 is also the best value-for-money processor choice at the moment (priced at 114 euros). It has more than enough power for most gamers at 60-144 Hz (especially if you overclock it and adjust the memory settings), although a capable graphics card is required.
If you play at 1080p with more than 144Hz or possibly professionally, Intel processors will give you the highest FPS and the best experience for this purpose, and I'm only referring to the i9 9900k(s). No other Intel processor is worth it at the moment as AMD does it better and cheaper.

For those who do not have the money for a Ryzen 5 3600 which costs (27/7/2019) ~70 euros more, the best choice is the Ryzen 5 2600 or 1600 as later you will be able to upgrade to a 6/8/12-core processor with the same B350, B450, X370, X470 or even A320 motherboard. Additionally, the Ryzen 5 2600 outperforms the i5 in productivity because it has 6 more threads, while it is roughly equal in gaming and is expected to surpass it in the near future as games start to utilize more cores.

This is the most value for money GAMING processor currently available! It is known that Intel is more gaming friendly than AMD, and this is evident in practice as it produces more FPS than a RYZEN 2700X! It is also about 3-5% worse than the new Ryzen 5 3600. I still believe that if you are ONLY interested in gaming, the price difference is not worth it.

I am strictly talking about gaming at the moment as that's how I use it. Of course, it cannot handle multitasking since the 6 cores are sufficient. Just keep in mind that it does not have integrated graphics and cannot work without a graphics card.

P.S. Since it can handle a GTX 1080ti and RTX 2080, I believe that for the next 5 years, you won't need to upgrade your processor in your PC. Also, keep in mind that you will need an aftermarket cooler because it reaches 4.1 GHz and with the stock cooler, it reaches 70 degrees. I installed a CoolerMaster Hyper TX3i for under 20 euros and didn't see temperatures above 55 degrees in stress tests.

For those who still don't believe it, in another video, a YouTuber has done a very serious and detailed analysis of these 2 processors, with the 3600 dominating in rendering, workstation usage, and streaming. BUT in gaming, after testing in 10 different titles, it has been proven that the 9400f is ahead by 6.7% in FPS when both processors are combined with a 2080ti! Even if you believe that because the 3600 can be overclocked, the difference will decrease, you are wrong, as with an overclock to 4.2 GHz on all cores (don't be confused by AMD's boost to 4.2 GHz! At the moment, the price difference is 50 euros, I will say it again, if you are ONLY interested in gaming (of course, for everyday use, there is no difference between them), without streaming, etc., I don't believe the difference is worth it, especially when one surpasses the other. Okay, I will say that there is a difference in FPS in lows-very lows in games that require many cores, for example, Assassin's Creed, but it is very specific. I am referring to the overall performance of the two in terms of average FPS.

I bought this specific processor for 171€. I have to say it's the best purchase I've made by far.

First of all, let me start by saying that I upgraded my computer from a g5400. As a demanding gamer who plays games like Rust, Pubg, Csgo, etc., I see huge differences. I didn't choose the red side (AMD) because I don't do rendering or editing. Also, this particular i5 performs better in gaming compared to the Ryzen 5 2600, as it has a higher single-core score.

With a Gtx 960 4gb Palit Jetstream and 16gb of 3000 RAM (which is timed at 2666 due to the motherboard's limitation - Gigabyte b360m gaming 3, which supports a maximum of 2666mhz), I comfortably play my games at 1080p.

Pubg ultra: 60fps
Pubg competitive: 90-100fps
Rust: Good, shaders 300, draw distance 1500: 70-80 fps
Csgo ultra: 150-200fps

Attention!!
1) If you have a 300 series motherboard (e.g. 360, z370), you need to update the BIOS for the processor to work. Otherwise, you will see a black screen. I recommend updating it to the latest version to avoid any compatibility issues.
2) The processor does not have integrated graphics (Intel HD Graphics), so you need a separate graphics card.

In terms of its price, it's a perfect processor capable of everyday tasks, some editing, and playing any game you give it. However, please note that if you want a processor for heavy multitasking, go for a Ryzen 2600/1700 without a second thought.
