The farmers of the devastated Attic countryside were within the city walls in a desperate situation. With his works, Aristophanes became the most authentic exponent and herald of the Athenian people's desire for peace.
From the hilarious words and subversive actions of the peace-loving farmer Dikaiopolis, the causes of the war, the disorder of the popular assemblies, and the pre-fabricated decisions are revealed and ridiculed. Thus, the war-loving Lamachus, the lying ambassador, and the sycophants who exploit the war to make money come to the surface.
