Description

Description

Magic was the sum of the metaphysical beliefs of the Egyptians, according to which the execution of specific religious (ritualistic and symbolic) actions, with the help and voluntary direction (emanation) of a secret, impersonal, and morally neutral force that pervaded everything in the universe and served both humans and supernatural beings (deities, demons, spirits of the dead, etc.), would bring about specific results both in everyday life and in the afterlife.

From the moment the world was created and the global Maat began to function, a fundamental metaphysical law of conservation was automatically set into effect. Universal harmony had to be maintained and, if possible, always increased, like entropy, but - contrary to the thermodynamic concept - the necessity of Maat was not related to disorder, but to order. It was directly linked to the smooth, peaceful, and uninterrupted outcome and flow of everything. It was opposed to any deviation, sin, crime, or disharmony.

Like Necessity, Maat enveloped everything with the veils of Justice, Good Governance, and Peace. Any disturbance of it is not pleasing to the gods and should be neutralized by divine or human intervention. Magic was offered to humans specifically for this purpose. To deal with crises and restore order, as in ancient Egypt, it was a legitimate and divine-serving function, not at all reprehensible or negative, integral to the religious component of the metaphysical consciousness of the Egyptians.

In this book, the first serious presentation of ancient Egyptian magic in Greece, we will encounter the Egyptians' views on the afterlife, their religious beliefs, and directly or indirectly their faith in magic, as a universal controlling force that connects and interrelates everything, linking the divine to the human world. A force that was considered a gift from the gods to humans, so they could cope with the difficulties and obstacles of their earthly and afterlife existence.

In the symbolic context of the archetypal Jungian perspective, ancient Egyptian metaphysics and the accompanying magic are full of symbols, insightful knowledge, and empathy, both for the world around us and for its beauty. Could they perhaps indirectly help the modern human being to approach self-knowledge, hetero-knowledge, and cosmology?
