How do you manage facts, personal revelations, behaviors outside the protocol, moments of weakness and relaxation, which, together with the public image, more fully complete the portrait of great personalities whose existence and work are recorded by official history as protagonists of the human adventure on earth?
The author of this book, in his long journalistic journey, has been fortunate not only to have lived closely the Greek public life of the last 60 years but also to have closely connected with many significant personalities, including Konstantinos Karamanlis, Andreas Papandreou, and Charilaos Florakis.
The remarkable experiences he gained from his personal relationship with them, if not recorded, would end up as non-events. Consequently, they would remain unknown to interested parties, especially to their official biographers, although they can contribute to a more complete understanding of the three most important political leaders of contemporary Greek history.
Konstantinos Karamanlis, for example, confesses that the powerful Turkey can only be addressed through dialogue. If dialogue were to cease at some point, it would mean either a complete retreat of Greece to all of Turkey's demands or war.
Andreas Papandreou suddenly expresses his regret that his government cannot implement the extremely successful economic policy of his Portuguese counterpart, Prime Minister Cavaco Silva, because that government is right-wing while his PASOK government is left-wing.
Charilaos Florakis reveals how he would constitutionally prevent guild strikes whenever they paralyze the smooth functioning of the economy and cause hardship mainly for the weaker citizens.
These are just some of the many confidences they shared with the author-journalist Giannis Marino, who deemed it necessary to bring them to the public for a more human approach to these three great politicians.
