In this study, the concepts of "Counseling" and "Educational Needs" are defined, the main theoretical approaches within the field of Counseling are described, and the Greek reality regarding the role of the elementary school teacher is presented.
Next, the necessity of Counseling in today's school is addressed, and the profile of the teacher in the Rhodope region is outlined. The research was conducted from November 2009 to February 2010, using a qualitative approach with data collection through interviews, and was based on four research axes:
1. How do educators perceive the term Counseling;
2. In which cases do they think Counseling knowledge is needed;
3. Is it within teachers' responsibilities to perform Counseling work, and what qualifications are considered necessary for this role;
4. What do teachers suggest to acquire Counseling knowledge;
