Description

Description

The process of forming the cultural identity and the refugee consciousness of the residents of the refugee settlement of Nea Michaniona in Thessaloniki is the subject of this study.

Specifically, it investigates the constituent elements that shape, from generation to generation, the refugee and local identity of the residents of Nea Michaniona, as well as the symbolic characteristics that are expressed in dimensions defined by the collective memory of the past and by the specific reality of the refugee community.

It therefore aims to discern in the contents of social relations at the local level those social, economic, and primarily cultural characteristics that connect the residents of Nea Michaniona from its establishment to the present day.

For this purpose, it studies the ways of life, that is, the attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors of the residents in their everyday life as well as in the ritual life of the community.
