Description

Description

The Hellespont and the Bosporus opened in the second half of the 5th century BC. Since then, the Aegean has been linked to the Black Sea. Greek mythology tells of Zeus and Hephaestus pinning Prometheus in the Caucasus. The Caucasus has been, in many ways, a reference point for the inhabitants of the Aegean since ancient times.

Around 2500 BC, the Amazons arrive in the Pontus from the Caucasus and dominate the region. They control the production of metals, which are taken and traded by the people of the Aegean: Lelges or Hatti and Carian or Minyans, who promote them to the ports of the Eastern Mediterranean. The Amazons will remain in the Pontus until the end of the Trojan War (1190-1180 BC).

The world of the Aegean during those years settled at the entrance of the Black Sea and in Propontis, while maintaining trade in the Pontus. By the middle of the 2nd century BC, the people of the Aegean establish a solid presence in Colchis. There, the King of Corinth, Helios, and his son Aietes will dominate. Near him will arrive the Minyan Phrixus with the golden-fleeced ram.

Helios will marry his sister Pasiphae to Minos. In the Pontus, for the first time in the world, a metal alloy known as steel is produced (mid-2nd century BC). At the end of the 13th century BC, the famous Argonaut expedition led by the Minyan Jason takes place for the golden fleece. This is followed by Heracles' expedition for the golden belt of Hippolyta (the Amazon).
