The unconfessed dreams of a beardless apprentice for the wife of the master craftsman. His execution by the Germans inside the stone primary school. The long journey of a capable merchant from Konitsa to Odessa. His meeting and friendship with the gifted mayor.

Piraeus 1925. A family of five from the mountainous Nafpaktia arrives at the port. They spend the night with some relatives in Keratsini. Below, the dark refugee shanties of Drapetsona. The next morning, they board the ship. Their destination is New York.

Twelve years later. The postman delivers the first remittances to build a school. Athens 2003. An email from New York. In English. "I wanted to inform you that my father died in June 2001...". People, everywhere and always. And benefactors, and politicians, and traitors. But above all, people.

They are not heroes of some novel. They are the people who accompanied us on our small journey through the stone primary schools of mainland Greece. The deeds of people are still there.
