The Bestiary, or Zoological, is an illustrated dictionary with a long tradition. The original text is believed to have appeared in the first half of the 2nd century AD under the title Physiologus, possibly in Alexandria, and contained mixed elements of natural history and mythological traditions. It referred not only to animals but also to the other two kingdoms, plants and minerals. During the Middle Ages, it was the most widespread reading after the Bible. In our time, it has fallen into oblivion because it is believed not to interest the modern man.
However, the myths and traditions related to animals are not just entertaining, but also a treasury of truths that man must know.
Therefore, the Bestiary is not just a simple reading, as many naively think, as man here is not the center of a universe made to serve him. Here, the protagonist is the animal and man is a traveler on the road of great adventure, always ready to read the "secret symbols".
