Description

The book by Marios Kyparissis Moros, titled Beyond the Lean Cows and subtitled Studies on the Poetry of Dinos Christianopoulos, is published by IANOS. The book's foreword is written by Sotiria Stavrakopoulou.

The eleven studies in this volume aim to introduce the reader to three versions of the poet Dinos Christianopoulos: Christianopoulos as a reader of biblical and Christian literature as well as the works of his contemporaries (Solomos, Kavafis, Seferis); Christianopoulos as perceived by two significant Greek composers (Hatzidakis and Kouyoumdzis); and Christianopoulos from the early 1950s, a period during which his poetry was formed. Each study starts from a different point and illuminates a small part of the poet, creating pieces that compose a section of his poetic creation.

Part of the foreword: When my graduate student Marios-Kyparissis Moros announced his intention to write some small studies on the work of Dinos Christianopoulos, I honestly wondered what he could possibly add to a body of work for which so much has been written, and just as much has been said by the poet himself in his essays and interviews. Since it’s my principle not to interfere with the selection of topics suggested by my students nor to discourage them, I told him to proceed. I was certainly aware of Moros's literary and critical ability, but when I read the photocopied volume of these works that he handed me, I understood well that we are dealing with an “exceptional case” of a gifted researcher of our modern Greek literature.

Biography: Marios-Kyparissis Moros: born in Athens in 1993 but grew up in Kozani. He graduated from the Department of Philology at the Faculty of Philosophy of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2015). In the same department, he wrote his master's thesis on references by prose writers of Thessaloniki to the German Occupation and is currently working on a doctoral dissertation on the presence of religious elements in Greek post-war poetry. His writings have been published in conference proceedings as well as in literary and philological journals.
