At the dawn of the new millennium, specifically in 1896, a century had passed since the release of Kostis Palamas's first collection of poems, "Songs of My Homeland." During these hundred years, much has been said and written about the poet and his work.

Therefore, another book about Palamas and his work, if not completely unnecessary, will certainly add very few new elements to what already exists, and it may also be considered somewhat outdated, since the poet, being relatively old, is now quite surpassed and does not interest the contemporary Greek reader much.

These two seemingly logical conclusions do not reflect reality at all, and their general acceptance would have serious negative consequences for the intellectual life of our country. The truth is that Palamas's work has neither been completely and definitively judged nor has it been surpassed, both in form and content.
