The issue of student admission to higher education is directly linked to the function of tutoring centers. For decades, the focus of student preparation for entrance exams has shifted from the school unit to the tutoring center.

The establishment in the consciousness of students and parents of the necessity of the latter as the most important factor in preparation for the national examinations is so strong that it sidelines the school, which is the main state institution for the socialization, education, and formation of young people.

This book explores the views of educators in secondary education regarding the reasons that drive students in Greece to attend tutoring centers, the reasons why the official state has failed to limit this phenomenon despite repeated announcements, as well as the ways in which it might be possible for tutoring centers to cease being regarded as essential by parents and students.

The participating educators believed that the situation could perhaps be reversed with a substantial reform of the access system to higher education that would disconnect high school from the national examinations.
